EXCEPTIONAL TENSILE STRENGTH, COUPLED WITH LOW DENSITY, MEAN THAT TITANIUM IS MOST WIDELY USED WHERE STRENGTH TO WEIGHT RATIO IS VITAL.

Consequently, the use of Titanium enables the manufacture of very strong, but very light components – perfect for competitors, worldwide.

In addition, Titanium is not overly complex to machine and weld, with no more than standard engineering approaches required. However, given the relatively high cost of the material, and that prolonged exposure to temperatures in excess of 600°C causes oxidation of the material (resulting in brittle components and potential breakages), titanium is better matched to cooler operating applications when strength and light weight is vital.

Titanium Alloys – commonly referred to as ‘Titanium’, the name of its commercially pure form. Whilst Titanium items are not as strong or as heat resistant as Inconel, they are lighter still. As weight control is critical in the motorsport industry, Titanium will always have its place on the spectrum of high performance.
